Introduction

I believe that the return of IAUA is extremely close.

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Matthew 24:33
Every year that passes is one year closer to the return of IAUA. The year 2004 seems particularly significant. There are signs in Bible prophecy and current events which suggest that there may be something special about the year 2004. Kenneth Cox has covered the general topic of Bible prophecy and current events quite well. The NET2000 evangelistic series which he presented was recorded for the Voice of Prophecy.

Cox goes into more depth and detail than any presentation I have ever seen. Only Smith is more thorough covering every verse with the most detail, you can imagine. Detail is more practical in a book. The primary shortcoming of Smith (1832 - 1903) is in the current events of the twentieth century.

Cox emphasizes, again and again, the nearness of the return of IAUA. He stops just short of suggesting any specific date. I have felt impressed to tread on that dangerous ground. I am suggesting possible dates for the Lord's return. Of course, no one yet knows the date for certain.

We are expected to know when it is very nearby the signs of the times. IAUA clearly stated, when He was on earth 2000 years ago, that no one knew the exact day nor hour of His return.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Matthew 24:36
Is this statement of IAUA still true now that He has ascended to Heaven and 2000 years have passed? When the last years are upon us will no one ever know the time in advance? I don't believe this is true. I believe in the very last year or so at the end of time, it will be known to those who have studied His truths.
7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Amos 3:7

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
I Thessalonians 5:1 - 6

Wolff believed the coming of the Lord to be at hand, his interpretation of the prophetic periods placing the great consummation within a very few years of the time pointed out by Miller. To those who urged from the scripture, "Of that day and hour knoweth no man," that men are to know nothing concerning the nearness of the advent, Wolff replied: "Did our Lord say that that day and hour should never be known? Did He not give us signs of the times, in order that we may know at least the approach of His coming, as one knows the approach of the summer by the fig tree putting forth its leaves? Matthew 24:32. Are we never to know that period, whilst He Himself exhorteth us not only to read Daniel the prophet, but to understand it? and in that very Daniel, where it is said that the words were shut up to the time of the end (which was the case in his time), and that 'many shall run to and fro' (a Hebrew expression for observing and thinking upon the time), 'and knowledge' (regarding that time) 'shall be increased.' Daniel 12:4. Besides this, our Lord does not intend to say by this, that the approach of the time shall not be known, but that the exact 'day and hour knoweth no man.' Enough, He does say, shall be known by the signs of the times, to induce us to prepare for His coming, as Noah prepared the ark."--Wolff, Researches and Missionary Labors, pages 404, 405. The Great Controversy, Chapter 20, A Great Religious Awakening, Pages 359-360.

"No man knoweth the day nor the hour" was the argument most often brought forward by rejecters of the advent faith. The scripture is: "Of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but My Father only." Matthew 24:36. A clear and harmonious explanation of this text was given by those who were looking for the Lord, and the wrong use made of it by their opponents was clearly shown. The words were spoken by Christ in that memorable conversation with His disciples upon Olivet after He had for the last time departed from the temple. The disciples had asked the question: "What shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Jesus gave them signs, and said: "When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Verses 3, 33. One saying of the Saviour must not be made to destroy another. Though no man knoweth the day nor the hour of His coming, we are instructed and required to know when it is near. We are further taught that to disregard His warning, and refuse or neglect to know when His advent is near, will be as fatal for us as it was for those who lived in the days of Noah not to know when the flood was coming. And the parable in the same chapter, contrasting the faithful and the unfaithful servant, and giving the doom of him who said in his heart, "My Lord delayeth His coming," shows in what light Christ will regard and reward those whom He finds watching, and teaching His coming, and those denying it. "Watch therefore," He says. "Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when He cometh shall find so doing." Verses 42, 46. "If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Revelation 3:3. The Great Controversy, Chapter 20, A Great Religious Awakening, Pages 370-371.

First Observation

The first thing I notice is that IAUA prophesied that the last days will be a repeat of the days of Noah.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Matthew 24:37
Along with other similarities that IAUA prophesied, the Bible indicates that for 120 years Noah preached the last message for his time. Then the flood came. I suspect that the same time period may be used for the preaching of the last message of our time. Then IAUA will return.

Now, the last prophetic date specifically defined in Daniel and Revelation is 1844. The significant date is taken to be the Day of Atonement which was assumed to be October 22, 1844. We need to be aware that there can easily be errors in determing dates from events that are over a thousand years ago.

In like manner the types which relate to the second advent must be fulfilled at the time pointed out in the symbolic service. Under the Mosaic system the cleansing of the sanctuary, or the great Day of Atonement, occurred on the tenth day of the seventh Jewish month (Leviticus 16:29-34), when the high priest, having made an atonement for all Israel, and thus removed their sins from the sanctuary, came forth and blessed the people. So it was believed that Christ, our great High Priest, would appear to purify the earth by the destruction of sin and sinners, and to bless His waiting people with immortality. The tenth day of the seventh month, the great Day of Atonement, the time of the cleansing of the sanctuary, which in the year 1844 fell upon the twenty-second of October, was regarded as the time of the Lord's coming. This was in harmony with the proofs already presented that the 2300 days would terminate in the autumn, and the conclusion seemed irresistible. The Great Controversy, Chapter 22, Prophecies Fulfilled, Pages 399-400.
Errors and disagreements in the reckoning of the Jewish Calendar since the first century make it hard to be certain of the exact date of the Day of Atonement. Errors and disagreements of a day or two are common and occasionally the exact month can be in dispute. Modern astronomical data makes an accurate determination possible, if you agree on the rules. These issues are discussed in detail in another chapter.

God's Sacred Calendar

The full truth of the last message to the world was not yet being preached in 1844. The Sabbath truth was not recognized by the Millerite movement until later. About 1884 the final major elements of present truth were apparently developed by Jones and Waggoner. The Latter Rain was preparing to fall and the Fourth Angel's message was ready to spread! The message was rejected by the official church in 1888.

1888 - Another Look

Note that there is 40 years between 1844 and 1884. Part of the mathematical patterns of IAUA, as we observe in the Bible, is the 40 days/year period. (The Israelites wandered for 40 years in the wilderness after being "baptized" in the Red Sea crossing and before entering the promised land. IAUShUO "wandered" for 40 days in the wilderness after being baptized in the River Jordan and before taking up His ministry among the Jews.) I think of this as the wanderings of the end-time church before it came to the full truth for that time.

Starting about the year 1884, 120 years of preaching the last message, finishes about the year 2004.

This observation, by itself, does not amount to much.

Second Observation

There are Bible references and statements by Ellen White which indicate that sin will rule the earth for six thousand years. Several of the Millerite and Adventist pioneers taught and wrote of the 6000 years of sin. Ellen White repeatedly mentions the 6000-year reign of sin in the chapters 41 and 42 of Great Controversy.

Desolation of the Earth

This concept appears often in Jewish teachings. The earth rests every seventh day just as man does because it is not worked on that day. God gave instruction, recorded in Leviticus, that the earth was not to be tilled every seventh year. Every seven times seven years there was an extra year of rest. Finally, the seventh millennium is the ultimate rest of the earth. At this time only Satan inhabits the earth. Cross-reference this with the statement that "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. (II Peter 3:8)"

34 Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.
Leviticus 26:34
This text refers to the land resting while Israel was in captivity. The same can certainly be assumed that the land will rest while the righteous are in heaven.

The seven-day creation was the basis for a great number of mathematical patterns used by God.

"It has been the faith of the most eminent servants of God, not only during the entire gospel dispensation but also during some hundred years previous to Christ's first advent, that the period of 6000-years from the creation would extend to the day of Judgment. And we think that the most careful study of the chronology of the Bible and of the prophetic periods will strongly confirm this view."
J. N. Andrews, Review and Herald, July 17, 1883

A Day As a Thousand Years

A widely accepted chronology places creation at 4004 BC. Other chronologies place the Fall at 3996 BC. The Hebrew religious text Jubilees, one of the pseudepigrapha, states that the Fall occurred a little more than seven years after creation.

17 And after the completion of the seven years, which he had completed there, seven years exactly, and in the second month, on the seventeenth day, the serpent came and approached the woman, and the serpent said to the woman, 'Hath God commanded you, saying, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?'
Jubilees 3:17

The thought occurred to me that this may be the earliest evidence of the proverbial seven-year itch. 6000 years after 3996 BC is about 2004 AD. It is impossible to sure of an exact count of years from events over a thousand years ago.

Here are some other links containing additional background information. Some contain obvious errors but there is still some interesting information.

Third Observation

Another reason why I believe that the return of IAUA is close. The shining of new light from the revival of old truths. The Third Elijah Message is now being proclaimed. Shortly we will see the appearance of the Third Elijah prophet.
4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Malachi 4:4-5
Revelation 18 shows this with the appearance of the Fourth Angel's Message.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Revelation 18:4
See The Mark of the Beast and Separating the Sacred and Profane for more details.

Fourth Observation

Prophecy is being fulfilled more and more in current events.

Fifth Observation

The power of the Holy Spirit is being poured out. All around me I see amazing recent changes in people and events I have never seen before that appear heavily influenced by the power of the Holy Spirit. Many of the people I have contact with throughout the US have told me of similar experiences.

Conclusion

I am not a prophet and I have received no special revelation from IAUA -- though, I am an ardent student of the Bible. IAUA has given all the revelation that is needed in His Holy Scriptures. I strongly suspect that IAUA will come very soon. It may be only a year a two. I further suspect that it will be on the Feast of Tabernacles -- though, I may be wrong. It will not shake my faith if He does not come this year or next. His coming will be very soon in any case!

The dates of the yearly Sabbaths:

IAUA Sacred Calendar

I believe IAUA has called me to:

  • Prepare my heart
  • Study His word
  • Watch and be ready
  • Reach out to my family
  • Reach out to others near me
  • Be ready for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
  • Distribute information about the last message.

What should the church be doing to prepare the people of IAUA?

Sadly, it appears that the church is truly Laodicean and asleep.

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:15-20
All churches have taken only some steps away from the Catholic apostasy. Some have taken more some less. None have continued to keep pushing forward to new light on the old truths of the Bible. It has never been safe to depend on church organizations for your salvation. It appears that the final message to the world will not come from the church organization but the true church, the people of IAUA.
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
Romans 12:5

What should you be doing to prepare to meet IAUA?

  • Pray for the impress of the Holy Spirit. I find it valuable to see my every thought as communication with the Holy Spirit, my constant companion.

  • Study the Bible for the statutes as a modern guide to life.

    Sacred Statutes

  • Study the Bible for prophecy to understand the past and prepare for the future.

  • I see good health as a critical component of the last message because if you don't have a clear mind and sound body you are hampered in understanding and spreading the message. I have begun to change my diet and have already experienced tremendous blessings.

Forgive my eagerness, obsession, and longing for the return of the Lord. I want to see His soon return so badly and I do believe it is so very close.
