Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord.

It is good news to hear that you will be joining the church again. Although the best part isn't the membership but the experience of forgiveness. An experience that will only continue to grow since the church still isn't perfect.

I am very confused and surprised by your response to my questions about the statutes. Some of the things you said seem so different to what you have said in the past regarding the feasts. "The feasts are not shadowy types" !!! And you "don't see anything in the Bible or Ellen White that 'the feasts were shadowy types pointing forward to the death of Christ, the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, etc.'" The Passover "is not even one of the annual feasts" - ? Is this just a change in semantics or a radical change of thought?

In sense though I am not surprised or confused by your response. It is the perfectly logical and consistent conclusion to a deliberate effort to separate the sacrifices from the feasts. Something which I don't believe we can do and still be on the side of truth. Sure there were other things involved with some of the feasts, like removing leaven and blowing trumpets etc, but the sacrifices were a very important element due to the fact that it is Christ shed blood on the cross that is the foundation for all our spiritual blessings. Without the blood there is nothing. There is no hope for removing sin from our lives, getting ready for the second coming, receiving the Holy Spirit, or any of the things pointed to by the feasts.

I of course don't want to be preachy either, but I do want to facilitate the meaningful exchange of ideas and thoughts in the quest for truth.

My response:

Confusion... :-) a common problem. It is clear that Satan is hard at work to keep us from understanding each other.

One point that I can see needs to be clarified is that there are numerous feast days declared in Leviticus 23. Only seven of these are annual sabbaths. An annual sabbath is indicated by the command for holy convocation and no work. Passover is not one of the annual sabbaths. The term Passover is sometimes used to refer to all the feasts observed in the week of the Feast of Unleavened Bread which contains two annual sabbaths.

I see nothing untruthful about separating the sacrifices offered on a day from the observance of the day itself. There were more sacrifices commanded on the weekly sabbath than on any other day. I see no problem with observing the sabbaths without the sacrifices. Neither did the apostle Paul who describes observing the annual sabbaths in numerous places in his letters.

Yes! The sacrifices were an important part of the feasts and sabbaths, until the final sacrifice was made.

May we all find peace and unity in the soon coming of IAUShUO (Ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.

Shabbat Shalom
