Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of IAUA. This is day 5 of month 1 of the Biblical Calendar in the estimated year 6021 Anno Mundi.

The Spring Sabbaths begin in 1 week and three days with God's New Year's Day, Unleavened Bread Sabbath, day 15 of month 1 (Monday, April 2 of the 2018, Gregorian Calendar, at sunset Sunday, April 1).

On God's Calendar the Biblical month begins on the global day after lunar conjunction. The Biblical year begins with God's New Year's Day (Passover) after the spring equinox (Spring Passover Rule). The Millerite Calendar (Spring New Moon Rule) is a month late in the Gregorian 2018 year. The Calculated Rabbinical Calendar will be two days early in spring and one day early in fall.

Recent discussions have reminded me of the dangers of hypnotism and mesmerism being used to distort Bible Truth. I thought I had written a presentation on this subject before but I don't find it. This is a tricky subject because there are many different types of hypnotism and mesmerism. I always find it helpful to refer to dictionary definitions from numerous sources to focus a subject.

Hypnotism: an artificially induced trance state resembling sleep, characterized by heightened susceptibility to suggestion.

Hypnotism: an artificially induced state of relaxation and concentration in which deeper parts of the mind become more accessible: used clinically to reduce reaction to pain, to encourage free association, etc See also autohypnosis

Hypnotism: Placing persons in a drowsy, sleeplike state in which they allegedly become vulnerable to the suggestions made by the hypnotist. Hypnosis may also be used to tap into the unconscious and is often characterized by vivid recall of memories and fantasies. These properties make hypnosis a useful tool in psychotherapy. Hypnosis also has sinister implications, for subjects may be manipulated to perform embarrassing actions or be susceptible to carrying out the hypnotist's commands after the hypnosis session (posthypnotic suggestion).

Mesmerism: 1.A strong or spellbinding appeal; fascination.

2.Hypnotic induction that is believed to involve animal magnetism.

3.Hypnotism.

I believe that so called "animal magnetism" is not some mysterious force but the simple effect of visible and audible factors that have an affect on a person. Pleasing dress, pleasing voice, pleasing looks, and other factors exert an effect.

I addressed this subject directly in a recent email.

I find your study very interesting and I like your emphasis on the simple Bible Truth.

I have some questions I would appreciate asking you and respectfully thank you for the invitation to do so.

My name is XXX

My telephone number is --

I look forward to speaking with you.

I responded:

I am very pleased to hear from you and I would be happy to discuss the Bible with you. However, I avoid conversations on the phone. I have found that phone conversations are not conducive to good Bible study. With email there is more of an opportunity for thought and additional Bible study on the topic of discussion. I have also found that writing by email brings more focus to the discussion. In my experience the discipline of writing also brings higher quality to the discussion. It is true that being able to hear the tone of voice can be helpful but it can also be a problem in this type of discussion. I happen to be working on a blog discussing these issues right now.

For example, a voice discussion (or presentation) in real-time can be used to apply pressure to accept a viewpoint by hypnotic methods. Speaking fast, smooth, loud, or using flashy language are some of the methods that are used to induce a state of near hypnotic suggestion that attempts to pressure a certain viewpoint. Individuals may not be consciously intending to do this but it can easily happen. These and other methods are even actively encouraged by public speaking classes without realizing the dangers.

I repeat that I would be happy to correspond but I avoid phone conversations.

_____

This is a deep and controversial subject with many different aspects. Video presentations are even more prone to such problems and dangers. The best presentations are simple and slow paced to avoid these problems. A slow paced presentation allows the listener to carefully consider what is being said and recall Bible passages that support or disagree with what is being said.

A good active listener to presentations that are supposed to be from the Bible, must actively examine what is said and not be a passive listener subject to hypnotism. You must actively seek to recall Bible passages that support or disagree with what is being said. This assumes you actually know your Bible well.

Another issue I have noticed is that discussions or presentations are sometimes longer than is appropriate. Some people have written to me long emails beating a subject to death. I prefer to Keep It Simple. I have a target maximize size for my blog presentations for this reason.

There are appropriate times for a book, which must be properly organized. Then it can be broken up and digested at a speed appropriate to a given reader. Some people write emails like they are a chapter of a book. Perhaps they copied and pasted large sections from a book or pamphlet? If they cannot organize ideas and encapsulate discrete thoughts and questions in brief for discussion, I do not care to hear from them anymore. I am happy to discuss Biblical issues but I am not interested in being preached at.

Another aspect of hypnotism is to release a torrent of confusing, mystical, new age, or wierd thoughts. These overwhelm and confuse the reader or listener, causing them to be pushed into belief and acceptance. It also imparts the pretense of knowledge and wisdom to impress the reader or listener and push the ideas presented into being accepted.

Sometimes a phone call will be like this. Many times a preacher will get carried away with including too much unfocused material in a sermon. I have been preached to over the phone! This is a very unpleasant experience.

The big problem with improper influence is that many people don't know that much about what the Bible says. They have often heard thousands of presentations (sermons) by various people but have not carefully studied the Bible for themselves. They are in great danger of just accepting what they are told without knowing there is error. This is a particular problem when the presenter is highly respected or approved by a denomination. What if the denomination is wrong?

There is some safety in hearing from many different people. It allows you to compare any differences to discern what is reasonable and what is not. However, it is vitally important to know what is in the only true source and to go directly to the only true source to compare everything you hear.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

An entire denomination, all its teachers, and teachings can disagree with what the Bible actually says!

Do you carefully validate what you hear with what the Bible says?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
