Preparing for the End of Time

The Lord is Coming!  Are you ready?

Home / Archives

Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of IAUA. This is day 6 of month 10 of the Biblical Calendar in the estimated year 6022 Anno Mundi.

The Spring Sabbaths begin with the Biblical New Year's day on the First Sabbath of Unleavened Bread in 14 weeks, day 15 of month 1 (Friday, March 22 of the 2019, Gregorian Calendar, at sunset Thursday, March 21).

On God's Calendar the Biblical month begins on the global day after lunar conjunction. The Biblical year begins with God's New Year's Day (Passover) after the spring equinox (Spring Passover Rule). The Millerite Calendar (Spring New Moon Rule) is a month late in the Gregorian 2019 year. The Calculated Rabbinical Calendar will also be a month late.

I am in the process of transferring my denominational membership to a different congregation where I expect to be more comfortable. I was invited by a former member of my current congregation, who also transferred there. The pastor asked for my email address. He sent me an email with his address.

I responded:

Got it! I look forward to discussions about my favorite subject, GOD!, Truth, and the Bible.

I understand that you and Cindy are wanting to transfer your membership to the West Frankfort Church. Maybe before we put that process into action, you could share with me your experience at the Thompsonville Church and what has prompted you to migrate away from there? If you want to email, that's fine, or we could sit down on Sabbath after potluck and have a brief conversation. Blessings to you.

I responded:

Yes, I mentioned to your Dad we wanted to transfer our membership. I apologize that I did nor formally state the request to you. I am happy to sit down with you on Sabbath but I am also happy with email.

We were very happy there for several years when we came to 3ABN in 2005. Little things started popping up as they always do but it was fine. We often talked about visiting other churches but never got around to it much. We attended an evening meeting at West Frankfort a few years ago for something to do with Maranatha. We have been to Marion once or twice for something or other.

I dislike talking about people but I guess it is unavoidable. Primarily, we have been troubled by the LONG sermons that Pastor ... preaches. The major problem is that he talks a lot about himself, his clothes, his watches, his iPod, his travels, .... His sermon content is a bit thin and rambling.

I don't know how much depth you want me to go into. I am a very open and honest (frank) :-)person so I rarely hold anything back when asked.

You may have noticed that I wear tassels on my belt as commanded by God (Numbers 15:37-41). I believe that the Ten Commandments are not the limit of God's Law. I believe in the Law of Moses as commanded by God.

Malachi 4:4 Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him at Horeb for all Israel, the statutes and judgments.

The SDA denomination is indecisive in its doctrines that explicitly follow the Ten Commandments and agree to some of the Law of Moses but not all. I follow all that God commands. I do not practice the sacrifices as we have explicit Biblical guidance they were to cease.

God has led me to understand that I must avoid disruption and controversy. I avoid talking about things that people do not understand unless they ask. Sometimes the Holy Spirit provokes me to make limited comments on things that are said in Sabbath School. There has not been any particular issue at Thompsonville.

I can share anything more you would like to know

Thank you for your response. In regards to the wearing of tassels, I feel no prompting to condemn such a practice. But I can't help but wonder, if one feels that this practice is a part of the law of Moses that is still to be kept, what about the command in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 ?? Are we to wear our phylacteries in order to fulfill such a command? Or shall we live by the intricate details of Leviticus 23? Since I have not studied this subject in great detail, can you provide any guidance from Mrs. White that lends credibility to keeping certain parts of the law of Moses today? Thank you in advance.

I responded:

Thank you for your understanding and interest with some apparently difficult questions.

I practice the words of Deuteronomy 6:6-9 in the way it is intended, not according to the practice of some Jews. I recognize as do most Jews that these words of guidance mean that the Law should be always in our mind, heart, … but as is the practice in parts of the Bible it can be recognized that the language is a type of parable or symbolic. Even our Savior used parables that one can readily recognize are symbolic and not literal such as Lazarus the beggar immediately ascending to heaven.

I recognize that understanding the Law is not easy. It was quite difficult for me as a lifelong SDA, when God opened my searching eyes to a recognition of His Law. This is particularly true because of the traditions of the Great Catholic Apostasy, which are not all recognized even by most SDA and the opposite extreme of the terrible practice of some Jews in adding additional commands to God's Law in their traditions.

I do live by the statutes of Leviticus 23 (without animal sacrifices) exactly as described, which I do not find intricate. They are difficult to understand, as is all the Bible, without careful study.

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Our Savior spoke of His Law in these words:

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

He also spoke of following all of His Law and avoiding the traditions of the Jews:

Mat 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
Mat 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

The words of Ellen do not take the place of God's commands, though I have never found her to disagree with the Bible. Some things she did not understand completely waiting for the "unrolling of the scroll" and the "new light" she foretold would come. She was told the foundations but the full understanding did not come in her day because of the resistance of the denomination leaders causing the advance of truth to be delayed. This reached a climax in 1888. However, she said clearly:

"In consequence of continual transgression, the moral law was repeated in awful grandeur from Sinai. Christ gave to Moses religious precepts which were to govern the everyday life. These statutes were explicitly given to guard the ten commandments. They were not shadowy types to pass away with the death of Christ. They were to be binding upon man in every age as long as time should last. These commands were enforced by the power of the moral law, and they clearly and definitely explained that law." {RH, May 6, 1875 par. 10} {1BC 1104.6} {ST April 15, 1875} Ellen G. White, "The Law of God", Review and Herald, May 6, 1875

She said much more but this is the start.

This is a difficult topic, which I have studied intensely for over 15 years. I have become a self-taught theologian. I have shared my studies on published websites and books, which might interest you.

Later, while pondering these emails, I began to realize that there was something unspoken that appears to be happening. It seems unusual that my reason for transferring my denominal membership to a different congregation would be questioned. I will see what happens.

Are you willing to learn and follow all truth whatever the resistance?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
