Psalms 119:11 I have kept Your word in my heart that I may not sin against You.

Knowing and practicing are the first steps to keep God's Word in our hearts. Memorization is an important way to keep God's Word in our hearts. It will not only protect us from sin but it will guide us and give comfort.

There are numerous ways to memorize. A combination of methods is the most effective. These are some of the steps I use. I even use this web page in my memorization.

  1. Read your chosen verses over and over every day.
  2. After reading try repeating them from memory.
  3. Read the verse again to see what you missed or didn't remember.
  4. Keep adding more memory verses as you progress.
  5. Make a list of the phrases of your verses like this web page. Hide the phrases coming and step through the verse phrase by phrase or sentence by sentence, repeating it in your mind or out loud before you see it and then immediately see it correctly.
The last step can be done with two sheets of paper. One has the verses on it the other is blank to cover or reveal as you step through. You can even use the Bible with a blank sheet of paper.

I prefer to avoid single verses. I add verses around popular verses to provide context. I use this webpage in my memorization process. I use automatic smooth scroll starting, stopping, and reversing with arrow up or down to reveal or hide the phrases in sequence.

One of the most important sciptures that every believer should have memorized.

Psalms 23:1-6
1 A Psalm of David.
IAUA is my Shepherd, I do not want.
2 He leads me to green pastures where I may lie down.
He leads me to calm water where I may drink.
3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
4 Though I may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear any evil, because You are with me.
Your rod and Your staff, comfort me.
5 You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil.
My blessings overflow.
6 Goodness and mercy will certainly follow me all the days of my life.
I will live in the house of IAUA forever.

Malachi 4:1-6
1 "Now, listen, the day is coming that will burn like a furnace.
All the proud and all that do wickedly will be stubble.
The day that is coming will burn them up." says Commander IAUA.
"It will not leave a root or branch of them."
2 "However, for you who fear my name the glorious Light of Righteousness will stand up in your defense, with healing in his wings.
You will go out and leap for joy like calves from the stall."
3 "You will trample the wicked because they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I will do this." says Commander IAUA.
4 "Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him at Horeb for all Israel, the statutes and judgments."
5 "Listen, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of IAUA."
6 "He will restore the heart of the fathers in the children and return the heart of the children to that of their fathers.
Then I will come to strike the earth with total destruction."

Isaiah 41:9-11
9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth.
I called you away from the leaders of earth.
I said to you, "You are my servant. I have chosen you and I have not sent you away.
10 "Do not be afraid because I am with you.
Do not be not confused or dismayed because I am your God.
I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will hold you up with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 "Listen, all those who were angry with you will be ashamed and confounded.
They will be like nothing.
Those who fight with you will perish.

Jeremiah 29:10-14
10 IAUA says, "After seventy years are finished at Babylon,
I will visit you and perform my promises to you, in causing you to return to this place.
11 "Because I know the plans that I have for you." says IAUA. "Plans for peace, not evil, to provide your expectation.
12 "Then you will call upon me.
You will go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
13 "You will seek me and find me, when you will search for me with all your heart.
14 "I will be found by you", says IAUA. "I will end your captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have sent you." says IAUA.
"I will bring you back to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive."

Habakkuk 2:1-3
1 I will stand at my watch and place myself in a tower.
I will wait to see what He will say to me.
What will He answer to my complaint?
2 IAUA answered me, and said, "Write the vision in a book.
Make it plain so that the busy person may read it.
3 "The vision is about an appointed time.
At the end it will happen.
It is not a lie.
Though it may not be for a while, wait for it.
It will certainly come, it will not delay.

John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God. The Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him. Without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life. The life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in darkness and the darkness did not comprehend.

John 3:14-21
14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
even so must the Son of man be lifted up.
15 That whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 Because God so loved the world, He gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 Because God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only born Son of God.
19 This is the condemnation. Light is come into the world but men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 Because every one that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light that his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that does truth comes to the light that his deeds may be made manifest that they are done in God.

John 14:1-11
1 Let not your heart be troubled.
You believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many places to live.
If it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself that where I am, there you may be also.
4 Where I go you know and the way you know.
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, but through me.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you know him and have seen him.
8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father and it suffices us.
9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been such a long time with you and yet you have not known me, Philip?
He that has seen me has seen the Father.
How do you say then, 'Show us the Father?'
10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak of myself, but the Father that lives in me, He does the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe me for the very works' sake.

Revelation 14:6-12
6 I saw another angel fly through heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him, because the hour of his judgment is come.
Worship him that made heaven, earth, the sea, and the fountains of waters.
8 There followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
9 The third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worships the beast and his image, he receives his mark in his forehead, or in his hand.
10 He will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation.
He will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
11 The smoke of their torment ascends for ever and ever.
They have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image and whoever receives the mark of his name.
12 Here is the patience of the saints. Here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 18:1-4
1 After these things, I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power.
The earth was given light with his glory.
2 He cried mightily, with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, the storehouse of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 Because, all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
The kings of the earth have committed fornication with her.
The merchants of the earth are grown rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people.
Do not participate in her sins and you will not receive her plagues.
