We are engaged in a Great Controversy. It is a fight between Good and Evil.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The armour of our battle.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The ultimate source of our power.
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

The most important first step is to awake every morning, drop to your knees and pray a prayer like this one. Only God can read our thoughts so pray out loud. The powers of evil and all the universe will hear you. All will know whose side you are on and what your choice is.
IAUA please help me. Praise your holy name.

If the powers of evil are around me this morning, I ask that you banish them from my presence.

Keep evil from me today and everyday.

Keep me from temptation. If temptation does come my way, keep me from sin.

Show me the sin in my life that I may turn away from it.

Forgive me for my sins. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness.

Open my heart to the work of your Holy Spirit.

I sacrifice myself and all my selfish desires to you.

I commit my life to seek to do your will.

Show me your will that I may follow it.

Give me wisdom and strength to do your will.

Guide me today and everyday to do what you want me to do.

Thank you for all that you have done for me.

Intercessory Prayer

Intercession is an entreaty in favor of another, especially a prayer or petition to God in behalf of another. A fantastic source of information on the tools of the devil, the need, and the use of intercessory prayer.

Anchor Ministries

There is a danger in this type of prayer. God never overrules the free will of a person to choose. You cannot honestly pray for God to force a person. Those who teach this are spreading false doctrine on behalf of another spirit.

You can pray for all the obstacles to be removed to allow the person to make their own choice. You can pray for the binding power of evil to be broken in a person's behalf. Then the person will be free to choose. Don't be disappointed in the power of God, if they still choose to remain or fall back in sin.

Dispute and Debate

Dispute and debate over teachings and prophecies is often a tool of Satan to deceive, divide, and corrupt the children of God. Understanding the three primary types of information we receive and the three primary reactions will allow us to improve our spiritual discernment.

The three types of information we encounter. Sometimes all three types are to be found in the same presentation.

  • The pure truth of God.

  • Truth that is presented in the wrong context and/or with the wrong interpretation and/or with the wrong emphasis.

  • Error disguised to look like truth and/or with a little window dressing of truth.

The three reactions we have to the information we receive.

  • Careful study and consideration comparing with scripture.

  • Unquestioned acceptance.

    Beware of accepting any truth without careful consideration of scripture proof. A smooth pleasing presentation even when it presents things we believe are true must be carefully tested. Even an official church source must be carefully considered.

  • Unquestioned rejection.

    Beware of rejecting any message without careful consideration. It may sound wrong and be unfamiliar but unless we know the scripture we are in danger of rejecting truth.

Dispute over the interpretation of prophecy is used by Satan to turn people away from truth. There are sometimes multiple applications of a single prophecy.

Do not let dispute over one point cause a loss of faith or rejection of a whole message. Remember the cliche of throwing out the baby with the bath water? God expects us to carefully study scripture to find and confirm truth.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Holy Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts 17:11
Stand firm in what you believe. Carefully consider additional truth that comes your way. Do not react quickly based on emotion or presentation style. Pray carefully for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Study the scriptures earnestly. Separate truth from error.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15

When the Spirit of God brings conviction follow. Beware of the temptation to postpone for a convenient time that may not come.

24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
