The Lord is Coming!   Are you ready?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Several have objected to my statement in the last newsletter.

One commented:

"You said, "Passover is the first full moon after the spring equinox." I think you overlooked something. Passover is the 14th day of the first month. The first month doesn't start until the first new moon after the spring equinox. Thus, Passover would be on the full moon AFTER the first NEW moon AFTER the spring equinox."

Another said:

In setting the first month by the new moon nearest the spring equinox shouldn't that new moon be the one that is on the SPRING side and not on the WINTER side of the spring equinox? Does not the month begin in SPRINGTIME not WINTER? Therefore, it seems that the first New Moon after winter is PASSED would be the first month of the New Year. It is Aviv, 'tender beginning' not ending, that marks the New Year, so it seems logical to begin after the spring equinox.

I was surprised by these objections because the proposed determination method does not agree with anything I have ever read in my studies of the calendar. I have received no answer as to the source of this determination method. Nissan (Abib) 1 in the popular Jewish calendar began before the equinox even as recently as 2002. This is true even though the popular Jewish calendar is already on average 8 days late and gets almost seven minutes later every year. The suggested determination methods would have the year start a month later than the Jewish calendar which is already late.

It is interesting to note that this method of determination could explain why October 22, 1844 was chosen as the Day of Atonement by the Millerites. The Jewish calendar had the Day of Atonement one month earlier. Every single source of chronological discussion agrees that the Jewish calendar is occasionally late and never early.

Because of the questions and confusion, I have carefully reviewed and revised my studies for detail and clarity. These are posted at:

http://www.IAUA.name/Calendar.html

I did simplify my statement to the point where there is a slight inaccuracy. Please refer to the website for all the details. In summary:

The timing of the months is determined by the moon. The beginning of the month follows closely after the new moon.

The timing of the year and the annual sabbaths is based on the sun. The Feast of the Last Great Day is specifically mentioned to be at (immediately after not before) the vernal autumn equinox by a careful study of the Hebrew words in the following Torah passage. It is not to be more than a month away, as the popular calendar has it.

Exodus 34:22 And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.

Passover can therefore be within a couple of days of the spring equinox. It is not to be several days more than a month away, as the popular calendar has it. The timing of the first month is based on Passover, not the timing of Passover based on the first month.

Exodus 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

This is my understanding. You may not agree. Everyone must make their own choices based on their own study and understanding. Do not forget that this is not an issue of salvation. We are saved by faith and belief in the Messiah.

I love the Lord. This is my best effort to follow His words.

John 14:15. "If you love me, keep my commandments."

This work of sanctification is an ongoing process where each of us works out our own salvation in our hearts and lives.

Phillipians 2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

A valuable alternate translation:

"So work with fear and trembling to discover what it really means to be saved." (Contemporary English Version)

I am repeating these important thoughts from my last newsletter:

There is so much confusion on the dates for the sacred annual sabbaths. I cannot help but think that Satan has almost succeeded in completely destroying any certainty. I have studied this subject extensively yet I confess that there are so many assumptions and interpretations that I might be mistaken about how to determine the start of a month and a year.

Whenever I study complex issues like this the words of the Saviour both comfort and haunt me.

Mark 10:15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

We need to make an honest effort to know the truth and not be satisfied with the traditions of men. I believe that those of us who have honestly sought to do the best we know will be blessed even if we are mistaken. It is important for all of us to be tolerant and understanding. "Judge not".

I do not condemn or criticize those who believe differently than I do on this confusing and difficult subject. I do respectfully disagree and believe it is appropriate that I should share and hold to my understanding. If anyone can show me a clearer understanding from the Bible, I will gladly adopt it. We will all be blessed in our attempts to follow and practice God's truth. Only those who dismiss any attempt to follow truth will suffer.

May we all find peace in the soon coming of Yahushua (Ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
