Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-uh-oo-uh) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly sabbath. I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord.

I have been hearing a lot of talk lately from different people about how important unity is in the church. Some of these peole are in leadership positions. What they say is on the surface very true.

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Psalms 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

The problem is that many times the context of their remarks sounds suspiciously like:

"You should not be disagreeing with me because that causes confusion and a lack of unity."

When we carefully examine the words of the Saviour we find an important distinction. His powerful prayer for us all in John Chapter 17 dwells on this subject. Please read and reread this chapter with prayer and meditation. As I read it now, contemplating this subject, I am filled with awe, pain, and tears. We are to be one in the word and in truth. Not according to any man's way but God's way only.

John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Paul also spoke eloquently in Ephesians chapter 4 on the importance of unity emphasizing that we are united on truth.

Ephesians 4
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

A related topic is when people start talking about a lack of love in the church. This usually comes from people who are not in charge and are often having problems. What they say is on the surface very true. Love, tolerance and acceptance in the church is very important.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

The problem is that many times the context of the remarks sounds suspiciously like:

"You should love and accept me and my bad behaviour no matter what I do."

We must not accept obvious bad behaviour. Paul spoke some very harsh and difficult words.

I Corinthians 5
9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

But there must be a balance. Remember, Love sinners, hate sin.

Ephesians 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

These are such a difficult topics that I shrink from approaching them but my observation is that the need is so great that I must. There is so much that needs to be said and I don't have all the answers. This much should get you to thinking and more importantly praying, reading, and studying.

Have you found the right balance in your life?

May we strive for peace and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (Ee-uh-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.

Shabbat Shalom,
