Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord. This is the 26th day of the twelfth month. It is three days until the beginning of God's New Year (March 20). It is two weeks and three days until the first Unleavened Sabbath (April 3).

I am embarassed to note that I can't count. Math has never been one of my strong points. I have been saying it is a certain number of weeks and "four" days until the first Unleavened Sabbath. In actual fact it is "three" days. Sorry.

I have been getting a lot of e-mail with questions and disputes about the Biblical calendar. A reader inquires:

It's nice to know when the Jewish New Year begins; but what is the significance (spiritually) of that New Year, vs Jan 1, vs the Chinese New Year, etc? I don't remember reading anywhere in the Bible where the Jewish New Year was marked or celebrated or acknowledged in any way.

_____

My response:

I do not know that there is any particular spiritual significance to the start of the year. However, many people attach some personal and social significance to the start of the year. There is nothing wrong with this, unless you attach it to a pagan devising (idol) instead of to something that God has devised. Therefore, since many people mark the beginning of the year, I point them to the beginning of God's year.

I would also comment that there is a dangerous subtle connotation when you refer to it as the "Jewish" New Year. It is "God's" New Year. I refer to it as Sacred because it is of God not man. Ezekial records a serious complaint from God.

Ezekial 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

Ezekial later records explicit directions for those who teach God's law.

Ezekial 44:23 And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

Another new visitor to my website who also read my newsletter had a great deal of questions and comments. One comment in particular indicated that there is a minor point that needs to be clarified.

In my last newsletter I said:

I was disappointed that cloudy skies kept me from seeing the eclipse of the full moon which introduces this sacred year.

They said in one of their observations:

Not that this year is going to be any more prophetic in the big scheme of things, but if as you indicate in your comments about the lunar eclipse, this is a sacred year, who knows what will come of it.

_____

My response:

I got the impression that you may have thought I was saying something I did not intend. I do not know that this year is any more sacred than any other. I was referring to the year as sacred because it is based on God's calendar as opposed to a year based on something else.

_____

They also asked:

Is Exodus 12:2 what tells you that Passover must follow the spring equinox and cannot be over a month away? Why could not the first month of the biblical year be a month later?

_____

My response:

My reading of Exodus 12:2 in light of other factors I discussed in a previous newsletter (2006-10-20) tells me that the presence of Passover (the 14th day of "a" month) immediately on or after the equinox is what determines the "first" month. In other words Passover is determined first, then the month where Passover falls is the first month of the year.

Exodus 12:2 This month {where passover is} shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

Another person I am corresponding with has a very lengthy and detailed presentation which disagrees with my referring to the seven yearly sabbaths as "sabbaths". They have some very tightly defined criteria for the use of the word "sabbath" which I am investigating. They go on to make some very extensive prophetic interpretations and projections based on interactions of what they define as yearly sabbaths with the seventh year sabbath and the jubilee.

Their teaching gets very deep and convoluted. I am carefully studying to untangle the message and understand where it is all leading. I may share some of it later.

Their teaching reminds me of what I encountered with the Shepherd's Rod. That teaching was based on a prophetic interpretation which amounts to a highly speculative majoring on minors. The lack of any additional gospel truth with reviving or reforming results identified it to me as a dead end.

The time spent engaged in all this study and correspondence is extensive and draining. I am frustrated that I do not have more time to spend on these subjects and ongoing study with other individuals. At the same time it is highly gratifying to have the opportunity to be involved in assisting others with their study and search for God's truth.

I pray that we may all continue to strive for peace and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-uh-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.

Shabbat Shalom,
