Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father, Greetings on this day of preparation for this high Sabbath which is both a weekly Sabbath and a yearly Sabbath. I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord. This is the 9th day of the 7th month of God's Sacred Calendar. This is the evening of the 10th day of the 7th month which is Atonement Sabbath (Saturday, September 22 on the 2007 Gregorian calendar). It is five days until the evening of the 15th day of the 7th month which is Tabernacles Sabbath (Thursday, September 27 on the 2007 Gregorian calendar). It is one week and five days until the evening of the 22nd day of the 7th month which is Last Day Sabbath (Thursday, October 4 on the 2007 Gregorian calendar). I have been asked to share some thoughts on the special meanings of the yearly Sabbaths as they approach. Lets start with a review of statutes concerning Tabernacles Sabbath. Leviticus 23:33-35 33 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD. 35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. Numbers 29:12 And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: There are some additional observances beside the typical Sabbath rest and the call for a holy convocation. Leviticus 23:39-43 39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath. 40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. 41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: 43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. This building of branches into booths is a puzzling observance. The spiritual significance and lesson has some apparent interpretations but you wonder what is really behind it when you look at it in depth. It is important to notice that this observance was only for those born in Israel. I can't help but wondering whether this only means that it is an observance which those not born in Israel do not practice. Is there some other significance? It is also important to note that God ties this observance to the 40 years in the wilderness. This was a time of wandering prior to entering the Promised Land. There is a compelling parallel to our wandering prior to entering heaven. Ellen White makes an interesting statement from one of her visions which has a compelling relationship to the seven days of Tabernacles. The Day-Star January 24, 1846 Letter from Sister Harmon. Portland, Me. Dec. 20, 1845. We all entered the cloud together, and were 7 days ascending to the sea of glass, when Jesus brought along the crowns and with his own right hand placed them on our heads. {DS, January 24, 1846 par. 1} Tabernacles is expected by many to be the day of the resurrection and when we will begin our journey to heaven. A memorial of the past and a promise for the future. It is amazing to me, after learning of the truth of the yearly Sabbaths and studying their meanings, that others who have studied these things can conclude that the observance that was once commanded has been done away. While pondering the significance of tomorrow's high Sabbath a thought occurs to me. The highest fulfillment of the first Unleavened Bread was a high Sabbath when the Saviour rested in the tomb after His sacrifice. What if the highest fulfillment of some other Sabbath's was to also occur on a high Sabbath. The first Pentecost was the first day of the week which it was required to be because Unleavened Bread was the seventh day. It is interesting to note that three of the four Fall Sabbaths all come on the same day of the week in a specific year. Just a thought... You may feel like I have raised more questions than provided any information about this special Sabbath. Since the ultimate fulfillment of this Sabbath is in the future, all we can expect is to have questions to ponder and pray for understanding. We can expect a lot more understanding from the appearance of the Third Elijah and the soon outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It is about time to start calculating the sacred calendar for next year. I have to get in those time off requests at work. Will you be meditating on the message that God wants us to learn during this Tabernacles Sabbath or will you be going about your daily work oblivious to God's holy day?
