Preparing for the End of Time

The Lord is Coming!   Are you ready?

Home / Archives

Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-uh-oo-uh) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord. This is the 16th day of the 11th month of God's Sacred Calendar in the year 6011 Anno Mundi.

It is about two months or 8 weeks and one day until the Spring Holy Days begin with Passover and the evening of the 15th day of the 1st month in the year 6012 Anno Mundi, which is the first Unleavened Bread Sabbath (Sunset on Saturday, March 22 on the 2008 Gregorian calendar).

I have been having many email exchanges with a new found contact through my website of a brother who is following all of the "Law of Moses". I will share part of one particularly valuable conversation.

...

Although they (SDA group in Canada) had not advanced in the areas of Torah you and I are practicing today such as the wearing of tassels and holy days, many other principals of torah were kept. It was brought to my attention that Mrs. White said that all of the Levitical Laws are to be followed. After I graduated from this system, I went on my work as a youth pastor supporting myself. As I passed by the commandment of Numbers 15 to wear tassels, I knew that I must wear them but I did not have a good mental picture of how to go about making them. Somehow I had the idea that I had to sew blue into the very bottom my pants where a hem normally is and on my cuff at the end of my shirt. (When I was a child, I thought as a child :-) )

...

I had begun keeping the festivals and wearing the tassels long before this incident. In 2004 I was led into contact with someone who was wearing them and I was informed that these were the same tassels Jesus wore. I rejoiced when I visualized the tassels and pleaded with the individual to help me obtain a set. I obtained them a few months later and I was so happy to put them on and I wore them proudly. I worked at Microsoft at the time and as I walked through the halls, people would take me aside and asked me what they were. At one point, I was asked specifically what church I went to and I realized that these people might think that the Seventh Day Adventist church was a torah friendly church which is not the case. What would happen if they went to the to the SDA Church expecting to see people wearing tassels?

It was at that time that I began telling people who I am and of what fold I belong. I am an Israelite. It made perfect sense to me. I didn't have to apologize for a thing. I didn't have to try to work through the history of Christianity and muddle through all of the reasons why I am keeping this commandment when the Christian church does not. I am an Israelite and the covenant demands that I wear tassels. I do it because I keep the covenant. Those who have asked are satisfied and respect my position. This is the line of reasoning I have taken as a Seventh Day Adventist who keeps the instructions of Moses. Since there is hostility against these instructions at the very top of the SDA leadership, I wish not to enter into controversy over it as a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church.

Rereading your letter again, I was struck by your mention of realizing the necessity of responding to God's command in Numbers 15:37-41. I had the same experience. Even though nobody had ever mentioned this statute to me, I immediately recognized its importance and its validity. I had learned that the statutes are the extension of the commandments. This is the primary proof quote to me from EGW.

Ellen G. White, "The Law of God", Review and Herald, May 6, 1875

In consequence of continual transgression, the moral law was repeated in awful grandeur from Sinai. Christ gave to Moses religious precepts which were to govern the everyday life. These statutes were explicitly given to guard the ten commandments. They were not shadowy types to pass away with the death of Christ. They were to be binding upon man in every age as long as time should last. These commands were enforced by the power of the moral law, and they clearly and definitely explained that law. {RH, May 6, 1875 par. 10} {1BC 1104.6} {ST April 15, 1875}

Malachi 4 is the primary proof text to me from the Bible. Note that verse 4 says "Remember" just like the fourth commandment. I was not going to ignore what may be the "least" of the statutes. I have never met another non-Jewish believer in the Torah who accepted the tassels. I guess you are the first, except since you claim Jewish ancestry, you may not qualify. :-)

Apparently I had an advantage in understanding the tassels because I have been a student of world religions since I was a child. I was well versed in the Jewish practice but it had never connected that it was a command from the Bible. I was probably more a partly tradition-based "Traditional Adventist" than truly being only based on the Word of God.

My first adaptation of the tassels was guided by Jewish tradition. I made my own tassels ornately knotted on my belt loops. Later I was guided by the criticism of the Messiah against wearing the tassels long. Matthew 23:5 (You may notice I dislike using the traditional name of Jesus. The traditional name of Yahushua is closer but still misleading. I don't use the name IAUShUO which I believe is more accurate because it is my own creation and I don't want to offend people.)

My current tassel is a loop which is initially 12 inches long with only one knot to hold it together and one to make the 1 inch loop. The end tassel is only 3-4 inches long. Oh, I also make ten little knots on the end because the yarn tends to unravel and get frayed. This is a very simple construction. I loop four on belt loops around my waist which I believe is a simple adaptation of the four corners of the garment for modern clothing styles. I describe this in detail on my website.

I don't know of anyone, among those who believe in the feasts and the statutes, who has ever adopted the wearing of the tassels, except yourself. I am very impressed.

There are many issues involved in the interpretation of the statutes which I have researched in great detail. I look forward to the possibility of discussing proper observance with you.

I feel compelled to repeat what I constantly remind people on my website and in my discussions. We are not saved by the proper observance of God's Law. We are saved because we believe and love the Messiah. The Messiah commanded us to follow the Word and we do because we love Him. Great love leads to the desire for understanding proper observance.

Shalom...

Does your love for God lead you to advance in the understanding of the proper observance of what God asks us to do?

I pray that we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-uh-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.

Shabbat Shalom,
