Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of IAUA. This is the 6th day of the 11th month of God's Sacred Calendar in the estimated year 6013 Anno Mundi.

It is 9 weeks and 5 days until the Spring Sabbaths begin on the evening of the 15th day of the 1st month (Wednesday, March 31 on the 2010 Gregorian Calendar, beginning sunset on Tuesday, March 30).

This year, those who follow the Millerite Calendar determination will be one month later than my research has determined for the Gregorian Calendar dates for God's Sacred Calendar. The dates on the Jewish Calendar are one day earlier in the spring and one day early in the fall.

Those who truly search for truth very quickly run into the established tradition of truth being decided by organizations and committees instead of in the hearts of God's true followers. There is a consistent pattern which occurs when truth is sought. This may occur over the course of years, maybe a generation, or it may occur quickly to those still deeply ingrained with tradition.

The process begins whenever you have an individual or a group of believers who break away in part from an established tradition because study has shown them there is error being taught and a lack of truth. These individuals are usually careful students of the Bible who follow what the Bible says rather than the traditions of men.

Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

There are always those who are attracted to new ideas without careful consideration for truth. Eventually the true students of the Bible attract a following of people which includes those who adopt ideas without careful study to ground new truth in their hearts. These people bring other new ideas which are not truth because they do not study for themselves.

Those who study carefully and adopt or reject ideas based on careful study are overwhelmed with the work of trying to help their brethren stick to carefully studied and grounded truth. Eventually a set of doctrines is developed to guide those who are new to truth or are easily led astray by new ideas.

These actions inevitably result in people and organizations which adopt methods of control to manipulate people to adhere to their understanding of truth. There is a fine line between witnessing to your understanding of truth, helping others to understand what you believe, and pressuring others to simply conform to what you say.

When these things progress there is a development of orthodoxy. The definition of orthodox is helpful to examine these issues.

1. of, pertaining to, or conforming to the approved form of any doctrine, philosophy, ideology, etc.
2. of, pertaining to, or conforming to beliefs, attitudes, or modes of conduct that are generally approved.
3. customary or conventional, as a means or method; established.
4. sound or correct in opinion or doctrine, esp. theological or religious doctrine.

Notice the distinction between "sound or correct" in the fourth definition and "approved or customary" in the other definitions. Sound or correct opinion or doctrine is based on careful study of the Bible enlightened by the Holy Spirit. Approved or customary is based on the ideas of men and organizations.

These deceptions and errors occur because Satan is hidden behind the affairs of men leading truth astray. God is also there to lead men who will follow to truth. This is a constant struggle which is called the Great Controversy.

Control and orthodoxy often result in traditional rules which go beyond simple obedience to define the details of proper observance, which are enforced. These details are properly established by a person's own study and obedience rather than by organizations.

Let me give an example to explain the difference. Proper Sabbath observance as defined by the Bible is refraining from the daily work of providing a living and attending a holy convocation.

Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

It is appropriate for the church to suggest other details of proper observance if it is done without force and judgment. It is up to the individual and their walk with God to decide, for example, if it is appropriate to swim, bike, or hike as a Sabbath activity. It is so tempting to judge others according to your own standards.

Are you seeking truth or following the opinions of men?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
