Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

The reader responds again:

Regarding the statutes and the feasts, my point was regarding the Ellen White quote. She says the statutes "were not shadowy types to pass away with the death of Christ." However the feasts were shadowy types pointing forward to the death of Christ, the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, etc. I am guessing that you would say that there were shadowy types that were going to pass away (the sacrifices) and shadowy types that were not going to pass away(the feasts).

I see the following examples as the statutes Ellen White was refering to as an expansion of the ten commandments. Some of these you have refered to yourself on your website I think so I won't supply references since I don't know them off the top of my head. Putting a guardrail on the porch, leaving behind portions of your crop for the poor, etc, etc. These were expansions of the ten commandments regarding protecting life, and curtailing covetousness etc. These are not shadowy types but practical applications of the law in everyday life. All of which still apply to us today in our own situation since most of us are not farmers for example.

These are clearly, (oops, at least clearly to me :) separate and distinct from the feasts which are ceremonial. Inspite of the fact that the feasts are refered to as "a statute forever" I still don't see the Bible teaching that they are in the same category as the ten commandments or the other statutes referred to earlier which are not ceremonial, and distinct from the services of the sanctuary.

I thought I did say that the feasts were not shadowy types! :-) I don't see anything in the Bible or Ellen White that "the feasts were shadowy types pointing forward to the death of Christ, the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, etc." In fact I believe that the messages of the feasts point more to the Second Coming. Only Passover, which is not even one of the annual feasts is directly associated with the sacrifice. It is interesting to note that at the time of its fulfillment Messiah already created a new ordinance, the Lord's Supper, to continue it. Like the Lord's Supper, the feasts are memorials. I believe they also point forward to everlasting memorials that will be celebrated in heaven just like the Messiah said he would celebrate the Lord's Supper with us in heaven.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread represents the work of rooting sin out of our lives.

The Latter Rain may yet fall as it did for the disciples and have a peak at Pentecost.

The Feast of Trumpets, Jewish Yom ha Terua (Day of the Shofar), begins the Jewish Yamim Nora Im (Days of Awe). This may be the Loud Cry referred to in Matthew 25:6. This is also called Yom ha-Din: the Day of Judgment. The traditional Jewish greeting at this time of year is "May you be sealed until the day of redemption". This may be the announcement from heaven described by Ellen White in vision.

"They fell all the way along the path one after another, until we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus' coming. The living saints, 144,000, in number, know and understand the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder & an earthquake." Ellen G. White, The Day-Star January 24, 1846

The Day of Atonement may be the final sealing of the righteous of the world.

The Feast of Tabernacles is the Jewish Hag ha Sukkoth or the Feast of Booths. The feast was also called Hag ha Asif (Feast of Ingathering).

"The Feast of Tabernacles was not only commemorative but typical. It not only pointed back to the wilderness sojourn, but, as the feast of harvest, it celebrated the ingathering of the fruits of the earth, and pointed forward to the great day of final ingathering, when the Lord of the harvest shall send forth His reapers to gather the tares together in bundles for the fire, and to gather the wheat into His garner." Ellen G. White, Patriarchs and Prophets, Chapter 52, The Annual Feasts, page 541

The Feast of Booths was a time of living in temporary shelters. This was a symbol of having no earthly home. This may be the time of the rapture. The seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles may be spent in transit to heaven.

"We all entered the cloud together, and were 7 days ascending to the sea of glass, when Jesus brought along the crowns and with his own right hand placed them on our heads. Ellen G. White, The Day-Star January 24, 1846

The Feast of the Last Great Day may represent the Marriage Feast of the Lamb.

Have I been preaching?

Moving on... I have been feeling drawn back to membership in the church. I was heavily touched watching the Prophecy Code presentation on baptism by Doug Batchelor. The Lord is telling me that I have not forgiven the church for its failings. I am reminded that God will not forgive those who do not forgive. I am reminded that whatever the shortcomings it is the only group attempting to follow the Word of God. I have spoken to the pastor about returning to the church and he is looking to bring Cindy and I in together.

May we all find peace and unity in the soon coming of IAUShUO (Ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.

Shabbat Shalom
