Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-uh-oo-uh) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray that this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord. This is the 16th day of the 4th month of God's Sacred Calendar in the year 6012 Anno Mundi.

It is ten weeks and two days until The Fall Sabbaths begin with the evening of the 1st day of the 7th month which is Trumpets Sabbath (Sunset on Sunday, August 31 on the 2008 Gregorian calendar). It is interesting to note that Monday September 1 is Labor Day which means almost everyone will be partially and unintentionally observing the Yearly Sabbath by not working.

I had an unusual experience this week. I did a double take walking through the front lobby at 3ABN. I saw a gentleman standing at the front desk wearing a kippah and tzitzit. We had a very good discussion of our belief in all of God's Law. He was there to be interviewed about being healed of pancreatic cancer.

He was an Adventist with no known Jewish blood who has recognized for about four years obedience to all of God's Law. He was "invited" to cease attending the Adventist church. He asked if he had said anything he shouldn't have and he was told "Not yet". He asked if he had done anything objectionable and he was told "Not yet".

He spoke at length of associating with a Messianic group because of their shared values. He talked of the influence and teachings of a Rabbi which he appreciated. I gave him my ministry business card and a copy of my book and we discussed keeping in touch by email.

I was a little disappointed to learn that he was highly attracted to a Messianic group and experiencing rejection by the Adventist church. I was also interested at first in the Messianic faith because it seemed to be practicing all of God's law but I quickly learned it was also deeply steeped in past Jewish traditions and not present truth.

I believe there is a danger in being distracted by Jewish traditions. Satan can use an interest in traditions as a distraction from the greater present truths. The problem of tradition, whether Jewish or Adventist, replacing God's commandments was noted by the Messiah.

Matthew 15:2-3 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

Paul has some comments about the dangers of tradition.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Peter mentions the distractions of tradition.

I Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

It is important to note that I recognize that traditions are not always "bad". Traditions that contradict the word of God are "bad". I am also concerned about the danger of traditions distracting from present truth. One way that this can occur is when more time is being spent studying and discussing traditions than the present truth for this time.

Traditions add a sense of security and belonging when they are practiced with fellow believers. Too many traditions become the focus of religious practice and dilute the practice of religion as God specifies it. A revival of a simpler more basic and primitive religion and godliness is needed in this age.

The Great Controversy
Chap. 27 - Modern Revivals
Ellen G. White

"Notwithstanding the widespread declension of faith and piety, there are true followers of Christ in these churches. Before the final visitation of God's judgments upon the earth there will be among the people of the Lord such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times. The Spirit and power of God will be poured out upon His children. At that time many will separate themselves from those churches in which the love of this world has supplanted love for God and His word. Many, both of ministers and people, will gladly accept those great truths which God has caused to be proclaimed at this time to prepare a people for the Lord's second coming. The enemy of souls desires to hinder this work; and before the time for such a movement shall come, he will endeavor to prevent it by introducing a counterfeit. In those churches which he can bring under his deceptive power he will make it appear that God's special blessing is poured out; there will be manifest what is thought to be great religious interest. Multitudes will exult that God is working marvelously for them, when the work is that of another spirit. Under a religious guise, Satan will seek to extend his influence over the Christian world. {GC 464.1}

"It is by beholding that we become changed. And as those sacred precepts in which God has opened to men the perfection and holiness of His character are neglected, and the minds of the people are attracted to human teachings and theories, what marvel that there has followed a decline of living piety in the church. Saith the Lord: "They have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water." Jeremiah 2:13. {GC 478.2}

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly. . . . But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:1-3. It is only as the law of God is restored to its rightful position that there can be a revival of primitive faith and godliness among His professed people. "Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls." Jeremiah 6:16. {GC 478.3}

I am a student, follower, and teacher of God's Law. I am an Israelite and a Hebrew by practice and belief. I am not Jewish and I do not promote Judaism. I do not wear a kippah because it is a Jewish tradition and not a command of God. I do not wear tefillin nor do I have a mezuzah on my house. I do wear tzitzit because they are a command of God (Numbers 15:37-41).

Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Do you recognize the danger of being more interested in tradition, whether Jewish or Adventist, than God's Law?

I pray that we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-uh-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
