Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-uh-oo-uh) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of the Lord. This is the 30th day of the 9th month of God's Sacred Calendar in the year 6012 Anno Mundi.

It is about four months until the Spring Sabbaths begin with the evening of the 15th day of the 1st month which is the first Unleavened Bread Sabbath (Saturday, April 11 on the 2009 Gregorian calendar, beginning sunset on Friday, April 10).

The more I study the Bible to know for myself what it says the more I notice seductive ideas being presented which contradict what the Bible says. These ideas come out as stories, illustrations, or observations. These ideas are not presented as teaching or doctrines but just ideas. The problem is that these ideas have subtle messages in them which contradict the Bible.

There is a verse which appears twice in Proverbs which directly addresses the results of these things.

Proverbs 14:12 and Proverbs 16:25
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Instead of just being vague I will give you an explicit example of one of these deceptive ideas. I have heard this repeated a couple of times by a prominent preacher. It is usually in the context of the Christmas story. It is a seductive cute idea.

The suggestion was that the Messiah was not just a little baby. Because He was God, He had special ability and consciousness even as a baby which we do not have. Here is part of how the illustration was given:

"Can't you just see the little baby Jesus asleep in Mary's arms. It is so amazing to realize this. He could have opened His eyes and said 'Hi Mary, how ya doing?' and closed His eyes and gone back to sleep."

Do you recognize the seductive error in this idea and others like it? There is such a huge temptation to come up with original ideas or powerful illustrations to glorify your own ability and attract attention to yourself.

If the Saviour of mankind had some special ability which we do not have then He could not possibly have been our representative and face what we face on earth.

The implication is that He did not give up everything when He left heaven to become one of us here on earth.

I John 4:1-3
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

If we believe the lie which says the Messiah had some advantage over us then we are open to the deception that He could not possibly understand and save us.

Imagine the enormity of realizing the truth that the Saviour had no prior knowledge of who He was and what He had known in Heaven. He started out with no knowledge of Himself. He had only God's own word taught to Him by His mother and her testimony and that of His earthly father of what had been told to them.

Imagine the faith it took to believe in Himself as the Son of God sent to die for all mankind.

II John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

After He had believed in who He was:

Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

He received the affirmation of God:

Luke 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

We do not know what other affirmations He may have received but I am certain that He depended on faith just as much as we do.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

We have His own testimony that anything He did we can do and greater.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

The following paragraph is a valuable part of a description of the dangers of not following and believing exactly what God says to us.

Patriarchs and Prophets (1890)
Chap. 3 - The Temptation and Fall
Eve really believed the words of Satan, but her belief did not save her from the penalty of sin. She disbelieved the words of God, and this was what led to her fall. In the judgment men will not be condemned because they conscientiously believed a lie, but because they did not believe the truth, because they neglected the opportunity of learning what is truth. Notwithstanding the sophistry of Satan to the contrary, it is always disastrous to disobey God. We must set our hearts to know what is truth. All the lessons which God has caused to be placed on record in His word are for our warning and instruction. They are given to save us from deception. Their neglect will result in ruin to ourselves. Whatever contradicts God's word, we may be sure proceeds from Satan. {PP 55.2}

Are you carefully studying the Bible for truth or do you accept whatever seductive error you may hear?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-uh-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
