Preparing for the End of Time

The Lord is Coming!   Are you ready?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-uh-oo-uh) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of IAUA. This is the 30th day of the 5th month of God's Sacred Calendar in the estimated year 6013 Anno Mundi.

It is 4 weeks and one day until the Fall Sabbaths begin with Trumpets Sabbath on the evening of the 1st day of the 7th month (Sunday, September 20 on the 2009 Gregorian calendar, beginning sunset on Saturday, September 19).

This year, those who follow the Millerite Calendar determination agree with my understanding of the Gregorian Calendar dates for God's Sacred Calendar. The dates on the apostate Jewish Calendar are two days earlier in the spring and one day early in the fall.

You may or may not be aware there is a major debate going on in the church about the role of teaching evolution in Adventist schools. A recent (2009-06-26) newsletter (Creation Affirmation) which mentioned the affirmation of creation by the president of the Seventh-day Adventist world church was a part of the debate.

The debate has escalated and many others are making statements, creating petitions, and writing letters to high level officials complaining about the practices which are being defended in some circles. In one forum I made the following personal witness.

_____

I acknowledge and apologize because I have not taken the time to read all the comments which have appeared on this subject. I was asked to share my witness of how this issue affected me. I hope this will be helpful to the discussion. The issue of the way evolution is approached in our schools is nothing new. I was taught to embrace evolutionary thinking as a graduate computer science student at Andrews University about 1980. I will testify to my own experience and you are free to decide what you will make of it.

As a science student, I attended a class called something like "Christian Faith and Science". In this class I received extensive lectures on the proofs of evolution. In addition, non-Adventist scientists were brought from outside the University to present lectures on evolutionary proofs to the class. There was no presentation of the validity of the Biblical account of Creation. There was no information presented to assist in the understanding of the alternate interpretations for the evolutionary "proofs" presented.

This is only one specific instance of a general atmosphere of Biblical skepticism I observed. I lost my faith and belief in the Biblical account of creation for many years. My belief in the entire Bible was also weakened. There were many students I knew at the university, including good friends, who also became believers in evolution during their time at the university and completely rejected the Biblical account of Creation.

I cannot speak to what is currently happening at La Sierra or anywhere else.

Was my young adult faith flawed because I was not strong enough to withstand the guidance of my more mature teachers?

I am skeptical of any form of political, social, or religious activism. There may be valid issues but we need careful consideration not flaming rhetoric (exaggerating here a bit to illustrate the point). The wording/goals of the petition needs to be carefully considered by those with actual knowledge of the situation. I will not sign the petition because I know nothing about what is happening at La Sierra. It is not appropriate to jump on a bandwagon.

I did think it was appropriate to comment that I have had personal experience with this type of problem in other places and at other times.

It is true Creation cannot be scientifically proven but I am glad that science can shed a lot of light which supports creation, if you already accept creation by faith in God and the Word. The work of Robert Gentry and others is a tremendous boost to those who are scientifically inclined but preserve their faith.

_____

I mentioned this statement in another posting.

Failure in the church to follow the Bible completely and faithfully results in a moving away from more of Bible truth inside and outside the church and university walls.

Are you seeking to follow the Bible completely or are you swayed by church leaders, teachers and general opinion to dismiss parts of the Bible?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-uh-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
