Preparing for the End of Time

The Lord is Coming!  Are you ready?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of IAUA. This is the 6th day of the 1st month of God's Sacred Calendar in the estimated year 6018 Anno Mundi.

The Spring Sabbaths begin in 1 week and one day. God's New Year's Day is the first Sabbath of Unleavened Bread, the 15th day of the 1st month (Sunday, April 5th of the 2015, Gregorian Calendar, at sunset Saturday, April 4th).

On God's Calendar the Sacred month begins on the world day after lunar conjunction and the sacred year begins with God's New Year's Day after the spring equinox (Spring Passover Rule). The Millerite Calendar (Spring New Moon Rule) is the same this year. The Calculated Rabbinical Calendar is one day early.

I was reviewing a program this week to rush providing CC for the broadcast tomorrow. We are making the transition to HD and it will be a while before the public proxy system at 3ABN.com will catch up. The internal reference:

There were a couple of things that distressed me about the video. I won't comment on the dramatization and theatrical performance in the video. Ellen's words are quite clear on the subject for those who want to understand. (Examples: Enacted Scenes {2MR 235.1}, Refrain From All Theatrical Display {Ev 137.3})

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the reading of a quote from Ellen dramatically claimed to have happened 36 months before the 1901 General Conference. I was quite familiar with the quote and I knew that it dated to earlier than that. While investigating the quote I was reminded of how confused ideas can become when we want something to say or mean something different than intended.

The specific reading of the quote did seem to date to the time claimed. However, the statement made in the quote was a simple rewording of a quote that had been printed many times for years prior to that publication. The quoted version:

"...Had the church of Christ done her appointed work as the Lord ordained, the whole world would before this have been warned, and the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great glory." {DA 633.3} (1898)

The earlier quote:

"Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem" [Luke 24:46, 47]. The power of God was to go with those who proclaimed the gospel. If those who claim to have a living experience in the things of God had done their appointed work as the Lord ordained, the whole world would have been warned, and the Lord Jesus would have come to our world with power and great glory.--Letter 84, 1894, pp. 7-9. (Written Nov. 14, 1894, from "Norfolk Villa," Prospect Street, Granville NSW, to "Dear Children Edson and Emma.") Ellen G. White Estate Washington, D. C. May 1, 1986. {16MR 38.2}

It is pretty easy to see the simple rewording of the quote. I have heard some claim she gave a definite early date when our Savior would have come but I have never found that one. Near that quote was another quote people love to repeat, which has troubled me.

"...By giving the gospel to the world it is in our power to hasten our Lord's return. We are not only to look for but to hasten the coming of the day of God. 2 Peter 3:12, margin. Had the church of Christ done her appointed work as the Lord ordained, the whole world would before this have been warned, and the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great glory." {DA 633.3} (1898)

This is often taken as meaning we can do something to hasten His return. I have a problem with this idea. The actual verse:

II Peter 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Clearly indicates we are hastening to the day. The plan of our eternal God of infinite knowledge and wisdom cannot be changed or modified by our actions. He has planned and knows the day when it will happen. We however can hasten to fulfill our part and be a part of His plan. I think of it as getting with the program to do our part. His plan goes on but we are losing our chance to be a part of His plan with every day we delay to diligently strive do our part. If we fail to prepare for the end of time, then we lose out for eternity. When we see all His truth, we will be sad that we delayed to follow Him earlier and completely.

Returning to comment on the video, I was also disturbed to see how often we seek results in our terms, not His. We want more people in our denomination but He wants ALL of His truth before the world. So many times I see a focus on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that only looks for the powerful outward display of the work of the Holy Spirit. We fail to see the critical outouring of doctrine and truth before the outpouring of power. Those who have not opened their hearts to truth and been filled internally in private will not participate in the public outpouring. There is an EGW quote I cannot find immediately that says the Spirit is outpouring on some and others are oblivious. This can only be the beginning private part.

Are you making haste to be a part of His program?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
