Dear Brothers and Sisters in IAUA (ee-ah-oo-ah) our Father,

Greetings on this day of preparation for the weekly Sabbath. I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and happy in the service of IAUA. This is the 11th day of the 9th month of God's Sacred Calendar in the estimated year 6017 Anno Mundi.

The Spring Holy Day season begins the New Year in about five months with Passover on the evening of the 15th day of the 1st month (Tuesday, April 15th on the 2014, Gregorian Calendar, at sunset on Monday, April 14th).

The Sacred month begins on the world day after lunar conjunction and the sacred year begins with the Spring Passover Rule dates my research, and others, has determined for the Gregorian Calendar dates of God's Sacred Calendar. The Millerite Calendar (Spring New Moon Rule) is the same this year. The Calculated Rabbinical Calendar is the same in the spring this year.

I was reading the Adventist World magazine for November 2013. On page 23 I read a startling statement.

"... relational experience trumps knowledge (see James 2:19,20)."

Reading this phrase immediately raised a red flag, sounded alarm bells, and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I will explain my reaction.

Please do not think that my examination of this phrase is by any means an attack on the magazine, the article, or the author. The article was a good exposition on one of our fundamental beliefs. However, this one phrase in the article illustrates a common problem, which is growing in severity.

This blog entry is another examination of the topic of previous blogs such as the 2006-09-01 Knowledge is Power.

First, it is important to clearly examine the definition and meaning of the word "trump".

trump
(noun) any playing card of a suit that for the time outranks the other suits, such a card being able to take any card of another suit.
(verb used with object) to excel; surpass; outdo.

It is unfortunate that the author chose to use a word associated with playing cards. However, the word is becoming common for illustrating the idea of something that is of greater importance. I believe it is an error to attempt to describe a relationship as something more important than knowledge.

However, I am not saying knowledge is more important than a relationship. The two items are a harmonious part of a dual system. A true relationship leads one to desire a deeper understanding and knowledge of your partner. Knowledge leads one to a closer relationship, if you agree with what you learn. This is the problem illustrated in the referenced verses.

James 2:18 Though a person may say, "You have faith, and I have works". Show me your faith without your works. But I will show you my faith, by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. This is good. The demons also believe that there is one God, and they tremble.
20 But will you understand this, you foolish person, that faith without works is dead? (FTCABE)

The verse actually contradicts the proposition that relationship is more important than knowledge. Demons have a faulty knowledge of God so they do not love Him. They have seen God! They know His power! They know there is one true God! They don't believe in His love and reject His guidance.

Imagine the foolishness of saying, "I love you but I don't want to know more about you." I could give many other illustrations but I suspect you see the point.

I see a parallel problem in the emphasis of relationship over knowledge with the emphasis of emotion over principle. I spoke about this problem in the 2010-03-05 blog Intellect Led Emotion.

There is a question that comes to my mind. What is the purpose of the denial of the pursuit of deeper knowledge of God and the Bible? I see this denial over and over in many subtle ways. I am reminded of the accusation of Festus against Paul.

Acts 26:24 As Paul spoke in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice. "Paul, you are out of your mind! Your great learning has made you crazy!"
25 Paul said, "I am not out of my mind, most noble Festus. I am speaking words of truth and wisdom." (FTCABE)

I have often felt the implication that I was crazy for all my emphasis on deep Bible study and my intense desire to practice what I have learned about God's guidance. I believe this is part of the end time deceptions, where appeals to emotion and charisma lead people astray from truth and principle.

Matthew 24:24 False Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders. So much that they would deceive even the elect, if it were possible. (FTCABE)

Are you building your relationship by increasing your knowledge of God and His guidance?

I pray we may all continue to seek love, peace, and unity in truth preparing for the soon coming of IAUShUO (ee-ah-oo-shoo-oh) Messiah, the Son of God.
